The Reality of Being a Mother: Why You Need Rest Before Perfection
Granted that you are a superwoman and can work twenty out of twenty-four hours, everything has a limit. Just like every machine needs rest, the human body needs rest too. Only a healthy mother can raise a healthy child and take proper care of them. If you have a few children, along with the endless burden of household chores and the underlying stress of supporting your family financially, then—stop!
Take a deep breath, lie down, and close your eyes for a few minutes to calm your mind. First of all, pay attention to yourself. Taking care of your health, your rest, and your happiness is the absolute priority. Otherwise, you risk pushing not only yourself but your entire family into exhaustion. Remember, your mental peace is what your children, your husband, and your home truly need. You do not need to be an exhausted superwoman; you just need to be a peaceful, present mother.
The Trap of Over-Consciousness in the Kitchen
It is not necessary to finish a whole week’s worth of chores today. Most of us mothers have this deeply ingrained habit: we walk into the kitchen just to grab a glass of water, but seeing unwashed dishes in the sink traps our minds right there. We start looking for items out of place, or fixing things that don’t need immediate attention.
Outside, a child might be crying or calling out for us, and we were dying of thirst ourselves, yet our focus gets completely hijacked by a messy counter. This is pure over-consciousness and over-stress. We take so much pressure on maintaining a spotless house that we fall into a toxic cycle. We find ourselves snapping at our little ones:
-
“Why did you put this here?”
-
“Who spilled this water?”
-
“Who ruined this bed sheet?”
Think about it—the very children for whom we build this home, the ones to whom we want to give every joy in the world, end up facing our frustration simply because a table isn’t clean. What is this? If things get a bit disorganized for a while, it is completely okay.
If the house doesn’t shine like glass every single day, the world isn’t going to end. We have set our standards of living so high that by the time we actually reach those standards, we depart from this world. We make our own lives tough and then sit around stressing over how difficult our lives are.
We want to feed our children golden bites, but children don’t want golden bites—they find peace in the simple meals fed by our hands. They get our love and attention, keeping them mentally relaxed, confident, and happy. Even if they cannot express this happiness at the time, when they grow up, they remember their mother’s love and childhood days.
Yet, we modern mothers want to give them a lifestyle that they can easily achieve for themselves when they grow up. And when they are children, they don’t even understand the value of these things because they are just kids.
Therefore, dear mother… give them what they need right now. And that is a mother’s love, which a mother can only give when she is at peace herself. If you take on the heavy burden of trying to provide luxuries while staying stressed out yourself, you won’t be able to give them love right now; you will only give them luxuries they don’t even need at this age. And later, when they grow up and you try to offer them love—when providing luxuries is no longer in your hands—they will go out looking for comforts of their own, and they won’t need your love anymore.
So, understand this game, and right now, give your children love… give yourself peace, and give it to them too.
Practical Ways to Lighten the Load
If dishes are piling up, let them sit for a bit. Prioritize your well-being first. Drink your water, hold your child, and attend to the human being who needs you most in that exact moment.
If you cannot finish all your chores in a day, give yourself grace:
-
Simplify meals: If cooking feels overwhelming, order food from outside or keep meals minimal.
-
Shift your cleaning schedule: Instead of deep-cleaning every single day, alternate between a thorough clean one day and light organizing the next. That is more than enough.
-
Involve and integrate: Stop treating chores like an unmovable mountain. Wash two or three utensils while cooking, or bring your child into the kitchen with you, turning small tasks into playful moments together.
Supporting Your Household Without Burning Out
Now, coming to the point of financial contribution and supporting your partner—listen. If it is within your control and you manage to carve out an extra half-hour a day, or a couple of hours a week, to pursue an income-generating skill, then that is wonderful. Start working on it today.
However, keep a realistic perspective: you cannot reach the destination by taking a giant leap all at once. Keep your intentions high and your dreams big, but trust that taking small, steady steps will eventually lead you to your goals.
If you are already short on time and stretched too thin, do not force yourself into burnout. If you can afford a helper, invest in one. If not, look for smart household gadgets or digital tools that can make your routine easier. Work smartly, and set micro-targets that fit comfortably into your week.
The Power of Consistency Over Rush
Throughout this entire cycle, there is never any need to rush. Rushing only multiplies your stress and distances you from true productivity. Success does not come from frantic panic; success comes through consistency.
Stay steadfast, protect your peace, and trust the process. Step by step, everything will fall into place.
